5 Hair Tips for Men

Just because you’re a guy, doesn’t mean you don’t want to look good. One of the biggest concerns men have is their hair. It’s typically the first place to show age, as it begins to thin and recede before men are out of their 20’s.

It’s not all downhill from here, though. Salon Helena has a few tips to prevent premature hair loss, and possibly reverse hair loss if you’re already being affected.

Treat Hair Gently. Wash hair only as needed with warm, not hot, water. When hair is wet, never rub it as this can damage hair when it is in its weakest state. Blot your hair, and avoid using a hair dryer whenever possible.

Hair Type is Important. When choosing a shampoo, buy one with oil for dry hair (like glycerin); or choose a clarifying shampoo for oily hair (such as tea tree oil). Check out the ingredients and you won’t have to spend a ton of money for a good quality product.

Avoid Tight Hats. Ever notice how hair around your sock line is sparse? Tight hats cause “traction alopecia” in which hair is pulled out of the scalp. Tight hats also damage to the cuticle, causing hair to break.

Use the Right Stuff. That 99-cent hair gel might cost you more in the long run. Products using alcohol strip hair of moisture, causing breakage that could look like thinning hair. Pomades and waxes require several washes that can also damage hair. Instead, use a water-based formula for your hair products.

Clarify Your Scalp. Your thinning hair may not only be due to aging; there could be buildup that broke your hair strands and sealed over your scalp. Nioxin rids your scalp of the minerals and environmental pollution that prevents your hair from growing.

One more tip: get professional services like coloring and highlighting done by a professional. That way, you’ll avoid accidentally damaging your hair and scalp with at-home kits that deliver sub-par results.
