Tips to Keep Your Hair Looking Healthy During Dry Winter Months

The cold weather is fast approaching! And, with all of those Holiday parties and family gatherings, you want your hair to look its absolute best. Here are a few things to keep in mind to help keep your hair healthy and shiny this winter:

  • Natural Oils—your sebaceous glands produce oils that your scalp and hair need to keep them moisturized and healthy. Washing your hair diminishes those oils; so, the more infrequently you wash your hair, the more natural oils your glands will produce to protect your hair from the dry weather.
  • Air Dry—we know that is easier said than done, but try to air dry your hair. When you can’t air dry, get a diffuser to use with your blow dryer—or protective creams with your straightener and curling iron—to minimize the heat damage and frizz.
  • Moisture, Moisture, Moisture—switch your regular shampoo and conditioner to ones that seal off the cuticle to lock in moisture. Additionally, choosing moisture-rich products to help absorb and keep moisture in your hair is a good idea.
  • Deep conditioningdeep conditioning at a salon every month can make a dramatic difference in your hair’s appearance. While there are over-the-counter options, salons have deep conditioning treatments that are more highly concentrated and much more likely to work.
  • After Shower Products—be sure to carry leave-in conditioners and anti-frizz products with you so you can help shield your hair from environmental factors throughout the day and keep it looking healthy.

Follow these steps during the dry months, and your hair will retain more moisture, keeping it healthier throughout the winter.
