What to Look for in a Good Hairstylist
Whether you’re new to Albuquerque or are just looking for something new, finding a good hairstylist can be a chore. To make the process a little simpler, we’ve compiled a list of things you should look for when determining if a stylist is going to be good for you. Once you’ve chosen a salon to start your hunt, there are several things you should consider:
Does the stylist ask you questions?
Your stylist’s job is to understand you, your personality and the goals you have for your hair.At a minimum, your stylist should ask you about your occupation, how much time you devote to doing your hair every day (and how much time you are willing to devote to doing your hair), the amount of maintenance you’re willing to do to maintain your look, and your overall “style vibe” (i.e., do you consider yourself trendy, classic, funky, edgy). All of these things will help your stylist know how much risk you are willing to take and enable them to make style suggestions based on your personality and lifestyle.
Is the stylist stylish?
Often times, you can tell a lot about a stylist by the way he or she dresses and the way her or she does their own hair. While a good hairstylist’s style may not match yours, it’s a good sign that they can achieve any given look if they are well-put-together themselves. With that said, don’t be afraid of a stylist who looks different than you—or has a completely different style than you. A good hairstylist is someone who can bring any style to life.
Does the stylist listen to your concerns?
If your stylist suggests something that you are not comfortable with, they should be willing to listen to your concerns. Based on your concerns, they should be able to allay your fears or modify their suggestion to make you feel better about the look they are suggesting. You should never feel forced into doing something that you are uncomfortable with. If you come to the salon with a picture, or a certain style in mind, a good hairstylist should not be afraid to discuss if that look will work for you or not based on your face shape, hair texture and lifestyle.
Is the stylist knowledgeable?
A good hairstylist will be able to talk to you about the best ways to care for your hair and the best products to maintain your style. Your stylist should be up-to-date on the latest trends and techniques in the beauty industry.
Does the stylist have a good personality?
You should feel comfortable around your stylist. Since you may end up spending a lot of time with your stylist, make sure you choose someone whose personality meshes well with yours.
Has the Salon Won Any Awards?
Awards can tell you kind of caliber of the salon that your stylist works at. If you find a salon that has been recognized for their work, it’s a good sign that their stylists are top-notch.
As you begin your quest for a good hairstylist in Albuquerque (or anywhere else), keep the above tips in mind. Of course, choosing a good hairstylist comes down to you and how comfortable you feel with the person doing your hair. Always trust your gut. : )
